Is careem better than uber?

Gone are the days when people used to stand in scorching heat to catch public transport i.e local buses or tuk-tuks to travel.

The launch of Careem and Uber has revolutionized the transport system of this country, relieving commuters from the nightmare of local tuk-tuks and buses. Careem, a dubai based Taxi service, and Uber, a multinational giant, both startup have grown quickly and now are competing relentlessly against each other. Is Careem better than Uber still remains a subject of debate among
many commuters.

A few days back Careem baned its captain who were found involved in fraudulent activities to maintain their integrity.

Here’s a list of comparison between the two:

1.Fare

When it comes to fare, there very little a consumer can choose between the two.
The market price for Careem and Uber both are competitive, however Uber stills holds an edge over Careem as it 10% to 20% lower than Careem.
Currently, Uber offers three services to commuters: Auto, Go and UberX.

UberAuto, otherwise known as Rickshaws or tuk-tuks, are very cheap with a base fare of PKR 45. While waiting, UberAuto charges PKR 1 per minute and while traveling a rate of PKR 4 is charged per KM. The minimum fare of UberAuto is PKR50. In case, you cancel the ride for any reason you have to pay the minimum fare i.e PKR50.

UberAuto Fare Breakup

UberGo, the minimum fare is PKR 120. The base fare is PKR80 and additional charge of PKR 6 per Kilometer. While waiting, UberGo charges PKR 3 per minute. If for any reason you cancel the ride, you will incur the minimum fare of PKR 120.

UberGo Fair Breakup

UberX, otherwise known as the premium ride or the business class, charges a base fare of PKR 110(PKR 30 more than UberGo) and additional charge of PKR 9 per kilometer. It charges PKR 3 per minute of waiting. The minimum fare is PKR 150 and likewise, if you cancel the ride for whatever the reason, you incur the minimum fare of PKR 150.

UberX Fair Breakup

Careem offers CareemGO, GO+, Business, and Tezz.
At CareemGO, the minimum fare is PKR 100. The base fare is PKR 75 and the moving rate per kilometer is PKR 9.33(PKR 3.33 higher than Uber). The waiting rate per hour is PKR 233 while Uber charges PKR 3 per minute. If you cancel the ride for whatever the reason, you incur the minimum fare of PKR 100.

CareemGO Fair Breakup

At CareemGO+, the minimum fare is PKR 150. The base fare is PKR 110 and the moving rate per kilometer is PKR 12.00. The waiting rate per hour is PKR 275 per hour. If you cancel the ride for whatever the reason, you incur the minimum fare of PKR 150.

CareemGo+ Fair Breakup

At Careem Business, the minimum fare is PKR 250. The base fare is PKR 160 and the moving rate per kilometer is PKR 23.00. The waiting rate per hour is PKR 370 per hour. If you cancel the ride for whatever the reason, you incur the minimum fare of PKR 250.

CareemBusiness Fair Breakup

At Careem tezz, the minimum fare is PKR 70. The base fare is PKR 65 and the moving rate per kilometer is PKR 8.80. The waiting rate per hour is PKR 220 per hour. If you cancel the ride for whatever the reason, you incur the minimum fare of PKR 70.

2.Safety

Safety remains the prime problem when using taxi-service as it a strange who is driving the car. Both, Careem and Uber take precaution when it comes to safety, as to make sure that it remains a safe way of commuting. However, Uber’s service has faced criticism across the globe due to sexual incidents which took place with the consumer and driver.

Locally, Pakistani women give a higher precedence to Careem when it comes down to safety. Moreover, people have found Careem drivers to be polite and are easy to talk with. Even some male Uber users, recommend to use Careem especially female, citing the incidents in Uber internationally.

3.Customer Service

Careem has recently closed its phone service so that booking can be only done through the app only but it remains prompt when it comes to solving customer complaints and queries. When filing a complaint, Careem ask a very detailed email with Booking ID, while for Uber only a ‘Need Help’ button under the history tab can solve your problem.

4.Wallet Feature

Careem offers a wallet feature, which lets you store any extra balance that you have paid to the captain to be deposited in your account. If you have credit, i.e positive balance the next time you travel Careem will balance it with your fare and likewise, if you have debit, Careem will charge that also.

5.Car and route tracking

With uber, you can track your ride even when you have closed the app. Additionally, it even track the route during the ride.
In contrast, Careem doesn’t provide a live response once the app is closed.

Most of males living throughout Pakistan prefer Uber whereas females prefer Careem. Careem is a turnoff for reasons including surge charges and unavailability of Car in time of need.
